This proposition aims to activate the form of an anti-atomic shelter whose
rules of construction have been made available in accordance with the open
source principle. Without completely rejecting its original function it is
however exposed, overexposed and thus becomes an unresponsive object, waiting,
questioning its true identity.
Originally designed by volunteers at the National
Laboratory in Oak Ridge in the early 1950's, this model was developed so that
everyone could easily follow its principles and have one constructed by a local
builder. If the means for survival rests on the elementary principle of an
underground shelter, its realization depends on the use of standard building
materials still in use according to the site and period of its construction.
This thus implies a certain number of choices comparable to those decisions
made when making a sculpture.
